The State of Cyber Resilience: Faster Response Required

Ryan LaSalle of Accenture Security on How to Be a 'Cyber Champion'
Ryan LaSalle, senior managing director, Accenture Security

More than half - 55% - of large companies are not effectively stopping cyberattacks, finding and fixing breaches quickly, or reducing the impact of breaches, according to findings from Accenture's State of Cybersecurity Resilience 2021 study.

Ryan LaSalle, senior managing director at Accenture Security, attributes this to organizations being "driven by compliance obligations, and not by business strategy, nor the threat landscape. They do just enough to get by on their audits and on what's expected of them by their industry and regulators, and that is insufficient to effectively defend the business," he says.

LaSalle recommends that organizations focus on the security investments they've already made, rather than adding more tools. "One of our findings from last year's survey was that the best performers actually operated their technology with more discipline, at a greater scale, to the edge of the business," he says.

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, LaSalle discusses:

  • The findings from Accenture's study;
  • The state of cyber resilience today and the gaps in our defenses;
  • The skills and capabilities CISOs need to be "cyber champions" and increase organizational cyber resilience.

LaSalle leads the North America practice for Accenture Security. He is responsible for nurturing the talented teams that bring transformative solutions to better defend and protect clients. He is also accountable for delivering on Accenture's commitment to clients for high-quality, innovative delivery to address their most critical issues.
