Secure Business Communications: Trends, Truths and Threats
SafeGuard Cyber CEO Chris Lehman Says Security Starts With VisibilityDigital communication has fundamentally transformed how businesses operate today, with employees relying on email, instant messaging, and other tools to collaborate and communicate effectively. This shift has also introduced new security risks, as humans are a primary target for attackers.
According to Verizon's 2022 Data Breach Investigations Report, 82% of data breaches were the result of a human exploit. While the industry emphasizes securing applications and infrastructure, securing humans remains a challenging endeavor, said Chris Lehman, CEO of SafeGuard Cyber.
"It's not a question of if; it's a question of when corporations and enterprises will have to put controls in place to protect themselves," Lehman said. "Because corporations are so far behind in securing humans, new communication channels and modern techniques like social engineering, we are going to see an ever-increasing use of those tactics and threat vectors by attackers."
In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2023, Lehman also discusses:
- The evolution and sophistication of social engineering techniques that bypass traditional defenses;
- The need to create unified visibility across platforms to effectively monitor potential threats;
- How to leverage contextual analysis to secure business communication.
Lehman has more than 20 years of experience working for some of the highest-growth and most successful technology companies. Prior to joining SafeGuard Cyber, he served as chief revenue officer at ExtraHop.
