Broadly, the cybersecurity literacy of companies and organizations in Australia is improving, he says.

"The board is now asking questions: What is a vulnerability? What is patching?" Ahmed says.

Cybersecurity awareness and defenses are improving, particularly as organizations embrace Australia's Essential Eight, Ahmed says. The Australian Cyber Security Centre, which is part of the Australian Signals Directorate, created these baseline mitigation strategies to reduce cyber risk.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group as part of CyberEdBoard's ongoing Profiles in Leadership series, Ahmed discusses:

  • How Australia's cybersecurity readiness has evolved;
  • How to communicate risk to stakeholders;
  • Where the biggest cybersecurity risks will emerge.

Ahmed was formerly CISO for Fire and Rescue NSW. He's also part-time president for ISACA's Sydney chapter.
