Princeton, NJ, March 09, 2007 --(BankInfoSecurity.com)-- For the first time on BankInfoSecurity.com, a fraud researcher from the FDIC will present a webinar on fraud. This presentation will discuss current trends in cyber fraud and financial crimes and their impact on the financial industry.
During the March 15 webinar the FDIC Examination Specialist David M. Nelson will discuss the FDIC observations which is derived from publicly-available information and other data from FDIC and other government sources. The data is analyzed to determine trends, frequency, and impact of fraudulent activity at financial institutions. For example, open source intelligence reports on information system vulnerabilities and hacker exploits are analyzed to determine the potential impact on financial institutions, and malicious code data is sampled and analyzed to determine threats to businesses, consumers, and financial institutions. Information reported to FDIC by consumers, small businesses, and bankers and aggregated to determine other threats and risks. This information is prospective and provides insight into emerging risks.
The report also includes aggregate data gathered from Suspicious Activity Reports submitted to FinCEN by financial institutions. This important data is sampled to determine the impact of current threats to financial institutions. Data on security incidents reported by bankers and FDIC examiners is also used.
David M. Nelson has a total of 21 Years with FDIC, and served 13 Years as Safety and Soundness Examiner, three years as a Compliance Examiner, two years as an IT Examiner, and three years as an Examination Specialist in Washington Headquarters in the Technology Supervision and AML/Terrorist Financing Branches. Nelson is a graduate of Temple University and ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Georgetown University. Nelson holds CISA and CISSP certifications and previously was a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager.
