OpenText Exec on What the Micro Focus Buy Means for Security
Prentiss Donohue on Bringing Application, Data, Identity Security Together Via M&A
OpenText acquired several cybersecurity companies in recent years to protect sensitive information and data everywhere from consumer to large enterprise environments, said Executive Vice President Prentiss Donohue.

The $5.8 billion purchase of Micro Focus in January shored up OpenText's offerings around application security, data security, identity management and security operations, adding new capabilities for both big and small businesses. The Toronto-area company has taken advantage of Micro Focus' technology to bring more identity protection and data security capabilities to existing banking and government clients (see: OpenText: Road to Smarter Information Management, Security).
"Every CISO we talk to is thinking through not just external threat risks but also their internal liabilities," Donohue said. "We're working on building models to not just anticipate the risks but help provide these CISOs with the ability to turn on security levels based on changing risk and to turn on compliance levels based on where new data or information may be coming into their environment."

Donohue has spent the last three years building OpenText's Cybersecurity business, which includes the acquisitions of Micro Focus, Zix, Carbonite, Webroot, BrightCloud and Hightail. His previous executive roles at OpenText include leading the partners and alliances organization and the professional and managed services businesses and driving strategic acquisitions. Prior to joining OpenText, Donohue spent six years driving Oracle's software, systems and cloud services business in both the direct and indirect channels. He previously worked at Sun Microsystems for 12 years in various leadership roles.
