Mitigating Ransomware Threat: The Role of Information Sharing
Elie Nasrallah of HITRUST on Timely Sharing of Indicators of Compromise
The HITRUST Cyber Threat Xchange played a role in making U.S. healthcare organizations aware of the WannaCry ransomware campaign early enough so they could thwart the threat, says HITRUST's Elie Nasrallah. HITRUST's Cyber Lab discovered indicators of compromise several weeks in advance of the worldwide WannaCry outbreak, he says.

In an interview at Information Security Media Group's recent Healthcare Security Summit in New York, Nasrallah discusses:
- How indicators of compromise are automatically provided to CTX members;
- How HITRUST's CTX platform is working with vendors, such as Trend Micro, to provide threat intelligence to and through the Department of Homeland Security; and
- How IOCs have helped healthcare providers protect patient data.
Nasrallah is director of cybersecurity strategy at HITRUST. With more than 20 years in the IT security field, he uses his experience with cyber defense solutions to assist organizations in making decisions to align with their business requirements. Previously, Nasrallah worked for Trend Micro, FireEye and RSA. He has recently been focused on integrating the HITRUST Cyber Threat XChange CTX intelligence sharing system with the health community.
