"If you look at the current threat landscapes, passwords are probably the leading indicator of data breaches globally," Evans says. "If you reduce the threat that relates to the largest reason why companies are being breached, you are reducing both the compliance cost of managing that but also the data breach risk."
Pani says that until passwordless authentication is commonplace, password managers are the best way to manage and automate long, complex passwords.
In a video panel interview with Information Security Media Group, Pani and Evans also discuss:
- How to complement passwords with stronger authentication;
- The value of password managers;
- The state of passwordless authentication.
Pani is CISO at Mindtree, where he is responsible for leading its global and diverse information security and cyber risk strategy. He has more than 18 years of IT and information security leadership experience in banking, telecom, Information Technology Enabled Services and healthcare businesses in the U.S., Europe and India.
Evans leads LogMeIn’s APAC identity and access team. A cybersecurity, cloud and technology industry veteran, he previously held senior sales roles with SolarWinds, CBA, St. George Bank and Macquarie Bank.
