Ajit Ashok of Philips Sizes Up Role of AI, ML, Blockchain and More
Using New Technologies to Prevent Healthcare Fraud

Block chain, artificial intelligence and machine learning can all play a role in ensuring the security of health data and preventing fraud, says Ajit Ashok Shenvi, director of big data and analytics at Philips' Innovation Campus in India.

Anonymization and encryption also help protect patient information from "getting into the wrong hands," he says in an interview with Information Security Media Group.

At Philips, a central team is mandated to hack new products "to try to find vulnerabilities in systems" before they're brought to market, he explains.

In this interview (see audio link below photo), Shenvi discusses:

  • The role of big data analytics;
  • Using blockchain to restrict access to only relevant data;
  • The changing healthcare regulatory landscape, including the impact of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation;
  • Philips' approach to ensuring the security of the devices it manufactures.

Shenvi, director of big data and analytics at Philips' Innovation Campus in India, is involved in building analytics competence and creating solutions across the healthcare continuum. He's a member of the company's health systems management team. Shenvi started his career with L&T in 1994, joining Philips in 1999. A Six Sigma master black belt and certified regulatory affairs professional, he has worked on industrial automation with PLCs/SCADA systems; research and development; quality assurance and control; regulatory management; product management; Six Sigma; big data; and analytics.
