Improving Encryption Management

As organizations expand their use of encryption to help prevent breaches, they must improve their management of cryptographic keys, says Prakash Panjwani, senior vice president at SafeNet.

Recent high-profile breaches have boosted awareness about the importance of prevention among senior leaders, Panjwani says. "It's gone from an issue of compliance to brand protection. ... It's no longer just your compliance officer worrying about security issues; suddenly the CEO is worrying about security issues," he notes.

In an interview at the RSA Conference 2014, Panjwani:

  • Stresses the need to broaden the scope of encryption;
  • Describes the challenges involved in the management of crypto keys.

Panjwani oversees product management, marketing, engineering and other supporting functions for SafeNet's data protection solutions. He has more than 20 years of experience in the software, security and telecom industries. Prior to joining SafeNet, he held leadership positions at Certicom Corp., Motorola Inc. and Telcordia (formerly Bellcore).
