PSD2: The Compliance and Enforcement Update

CA's James Rendell on the Challenges Posed by EU Directive
PSD2: The Compliance and Enforcement Update

The EU's second Payments Services Directive is alive and well. But where are financial institutions now re: compliance and enforcement? James Rendell of CA Technologies, a Broadcom company, offers insight on PSD2 and EMV 3DS compliance for 2020.

It's an odd time for PSD compliance, says Rendell, who heads Payment Security Strategy and Product Management for CA Technologies, because although PSD2's Regulatory Technical Standards have been in place since September of this year, they won't actually be enforced for roughly one year.

"It's kind of interesting territory," Rendell says. "It's technically in force ... but it's not going to be actively enforced or supervised until the end of next year."

In an interview primarily about PSD2, Rendell discusses:

  • PSD2 compliance challenges;
  • How institutions can best prepare for enforcement;
  • Considerations for PSD2 as well as EMV 3DS.

Rendell heads Payment Security Strategy and Product Management for CA Technologies. He is a recognized security and fraud expert covering topics such as mobility, cryptography, e-commerce, and network and infrastructure security. Prior to joining CA Technologies, he led the EMEA Security consulting practice at IBM Global Technology Services and the e-Crime Prevention consulting practice at Deloitte, based in London.
