The key to creating secure applications is choosing the right open source components and carefully monitoring them to ensure they remain free of defects, says Sonatype's Wai Man Yau.

"We help our customers throughout the open source development life cycle to choose the right components, which are free of defects, security vulnerabilities or even licensing obligations," Yau says.

In an interview at the Infosecurity Europe 2014 conference in London, Yau discusses:

  • How the software development cycle works;
  • A detailed process for picking the right components;
  • A method for monitoring components over time.

As vice president of international sales at Sonatype, Yau is responsible for driving the company's sales strategy and expansion into new markets. Previously, he was a sales director for HP Storage.
