Putting insider threat defenses in place "needs to be right at the top of the agenda," he says. "It's about understanding the effect that people can have, and humans are fallible at the end of the day. You program the machine, but not the human."

In a video interview at Information Security Media Group's recent Cybersecurity Summit in London, Gilkes discusses:

  • The insider threat;
  • Cultural challenges and improvement strategies;
  • The challenge of monitoring, versus acting.

Gilkes is an insider threat consultant and director of sales in Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Veriato. He's formerly held roles at Blackthorn Technologies, Canon and Hammond Logistics Group, among other organizations.
