Belkin Unveils Secure Web Cam Adapter

Belkin unveils its Secure Web Camera Adapter, which enables the use of standard USB Web cameras in computing environments where classified or sensitive information is presented. The adapter includes several security features, including an anti-tampering mechanism in the outside packaging, one-time programmable protected firmware and complete isolation of the USB circuit from the computer.

The Belkin Secure Web Camera Adapter includes:

  • Automatic Timer Mechanism: The timer functionality, combined with intuitive LED lights, indicates when the camera is active and when the user must press a button to extend the video call if desired; a disconnect button allows the user to immediately disconnect the camera when necessary.
  • Advanced Security Features: The isolated independent microcontroller cannot be hacked, reprogrammed or tampered with, and all firmware is stored on a non-programmable ROM.
  • Anti-Tamper Protection: Secure and rugged housing, an active anti-tamper mechanism, non-programmable firmware and tamper-evident packaging and label help ensure that the adapter remains secure in transit.

McAfee Embedded Control Used by NEC

McAfee announces that NEC is enhancing the security of its industrial and factory automation systems with McAfee Embedded Control, which allows only trusted applications to run on devices. NEC recognizes the growing need to protect industrial controls from cyber-attacks and is differentiating its industrial computer line-up with embedded security technology.

McAfee Embedded Control helps to ensure that only trusted applications run on devices after they are deployed in a factory or remote location. If the device is tampered with in any way, the McAfee solution issues alerts to notify the organization's operations or facilities manager. McAfee Embedded Control protects from zero-day attacks, reduces in-field breakage, eliminates the patching cycles typical of other security approaches and keeps devices compliant with security standards, the company says.
