The United States Air Force's digital transformation organization is currently developing and refining a range of captivating innovations. Stuart Wagner, chief digital transformation officer for the Air Force and Space Force in the Department of the United States Air Force, highlights the significance of an effective risk assessment framework in enabling public sector organizations to match the private sector's pace and motivation for innovation.

"It’s all about the benefits of taking action against the cost of not taking an action. While leaders across various defense departments now embrace the language of innovation, what we lack are the proper incentives. Nonetheless, our past and upcoming hackathons have set higher standards for us, not only to foster an innovation-driven culture but also to effectively implement technology at a larger scale," Wagner said.

In this exclusive video interview with Information Security Media Group, Wagner discusses:

  • Challenges of managing innovations in public sector;
  • Importance of hackathons to incubate innovations at scale;
  • A unique pitch to address cybersecurity and software supply chain security issues.

Wagner has been working at the U.S. Air Force and Space Force for more than two years. Prior to this, he worked as the technical advisor and chief data officer at the United States Department of Defense.
