How Cyber Florida Strengthens State's Cyber Resilience

Roland Miller on Focusing on Critical Infrastructure and Cybersecurity Gaps
Roland Miller, ambassador, Cyber Florida: The Florida Center for Cybersecurity

Cyber Florida: The Florida Center for Cybersecurity, a quasi-governmental agency funded by the state, helps enhance cybersecurity resilience by assisting understaffed critical infrastructure entities across Florida. Ambassador Roland Miller emphasized the importance of helping smaller entities improve their cybersecurity defenses.

These entities, Miller said, often have personnel juggling multiple roles, making them vulnerable to cyberthreats such as ransomware. Cyber Florida conducts risk assessments to identify common needs and provide recommendations to the legislature.

"You need to define the problem first: What is the scope? What are the commonalities and the needs, knowing that it's both public and private entities that own the infrastructure?" Miller said.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at the Cyber Security for Critical Assets USA Summit in Houston, Miller also discussed:

  • The challenges smaller municipalities and counties face in implementing adequate cybersecurity measures;
  • Identifying gaps and recommending solutions to the state legislature;
  • Cyber Florida's approach to risk assessments.

Miller is a global information technology executive with a proven record of protecting highly regulated national critical infrastructure. His background in securing the electrical grid brings valuable expertise to his role in Cyber Florida.
