Enterprise Browser Is More Than Just Security
Island CEO Mike Fey on How New Browser Offers Security, Productivity Gains Over VDIVirtual desktop infrastructure has been around for years as an option to secure hardware and systems, but VDI often causes friction for the business and can be unpopular with users. Island is taking on those challenges with its Enterprise Browser by managing everything in the browser, said Mike Fey, co-founder and CEO of Island.

The No. 1 aim of Enterprise Browser is to enable organizations to control the last mile, Fey said. Employees may be tricked into clicking on malicious links, but by ensuring that data stays in its respective platform - such as sales data residing with Salesforce - the process of protecting all data can become much simpler, he said.
"Think of it like this infinite control over the last mile," Fey said. "What happens at that last mile enables a lot of simplification in cybersecurity. We enable the browser to implement the policy that helps that business succeed. That policy can be everything from an enablement thought process to data protection to something that is granted full automation. All of those things can start to be enabled to true last-mile control."
In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2023, Fey also discusses:
- How Enterprise Browser can help employees significantly improve productivity over VDI;
- Adoption of the browser since its launch in February 2022;
- The security benefits of the browser over standard browsers and the potential to simplify security environments.
Prior to founding Island, Fey served as a board member at ShieldX Networks. He also served as CEO of D2IQ; president and COO at Symantec; president and COO of Blue Coat, acquired by Symantec; executive vice president and general manager at McAfee; and CTO of Intel Security. He has decades of experience in cybersecurity, enterprise software and cloud technology and is a frequent presenter at major cybersecurity events globally.
