Dakota Gruener, executive director, ID2020

The Good Health Pass Collaborative is developing a road map for digital health passes that international travelers could use to prove they have been tested for COVID-19. Dakota Gruener, executive director of ID2020, which launched the project, describes the effort, including privacy-protection measures.

"The Good Health Pass Collaborative is a multistakeholder, open and inclusive effort that has been launched to answer specifically, 'How do we think through the standards and the principles that are important for health pass credentials when applied to international travel?'" she says.

”Now with … more and more people being vaccinated, there's a need to be able to prove that one has been vaccinated and to do so across international borders … in a privacy-preserving manner."

A cross-section of global stakeholders in the travel, healthcare, identity and transaction services sectors are working together to create a blueprint for an interoperable digital health pass system to help pave the way to expanded international travel, Gruener says.

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, she discusses:

  • The motivation behind the Good Health Pass Collaborative;
  • How the collaborative aims to develop privacy protections and user-controlled, interoperable identity verification;
  • The core principles of the Good Health Pass framework.

Gruener is the executive director of ID2020, a global public-private partnership that brings together technologists, advocates, implementers and funders with the goal of creating digital IDs. She launched ID2020 in 2016, following her work at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, where she served as an aide-de-camp to the CEO, Seth Berkley.
