The platform security vendor said its acquisition of Tel Aviv-area Cyberint Technologies will make it easier for organizations to defend against internal and external cyberthreats. Cyberint's threat intelligence, digital risk protection and attack surface management services help companies mitigate risks from stolen credentials to fake websites and social media impersonation (see: Check Point Snags Team8's Nadav Zafrir to Replace Gil Shwed).
“Leaked credentials and fake websites designed for malicious purposes are staggeringly prevalent today, with over 90% of organizations facing these threats," Cyberint CEO Yochai Corem said in a statement. "This highlights the urgent need for real-time intelligence and proactive defense strategies, which our technology is able to mitigate in an effective way."
Terms of the acquisition - which is expected to close by the end of 2024 - weren't disclosed, although Calcalist and Globes said Check Point expects to pay roughly $200 million for Cyberint. A spokesperson declined to comment on those reports or make a spokesperson available to Information Security Media Group for an interview. Check Point's stock price fell Tuesday by $1.42 - or 0.75% - to $188.08 per share.
Cyberint was established in 2010, employs more than 170 people and has raised $68 million of outside funding, including a $40 million financing round closed in June 2022. The company has been led since August 2020 by Corem, who was previously an executive at Israeli cybersecurity companies CYE, Cyberbit and Elbit Systems and who started his career with Israel's Unit 8200 military intelligence division (see: Is Cyber Becoming a Primary Domain of Warfare?).
"Their solution aligns perfectly with our vision of collaborative threat prevention and enhances our SOC capabilities," Chief Services Officer Sharon Schusheim said in a statement. “We will be able to turn identified risks into autonomous preventative actions and work collaboratively across Check Point and third-party security products to contain compromised assets and mitigate external exposures.”
What Cyberint Brings to the Table
The company uses artificial intelligence to streamline risk detection and contextualize alerts, helping security teams address threats more efficiently with minimal false positives. Cyberint delivers rapid, actionable intelligence within 20 minutes of setup and supports its services with managed solutions that offer expert guidance, according to Check Point.
With the integration into Check Point's SOC, Cyberint will help organizations detect vulnerabilities, prevent impersonation and mitigate risks from both internal and external-facing applications and systems. Specifically, the integration will allow for additional collaboration between Check Point and third-party security products to automatically mitigate identified risks, according to the company.
Cyberint's technology will also be available as a managed service, which Check Point said will give clients expert guidance as well as high-quality management of external risks. The acquisition of Cyberint will allow Check Point's platform to automatically take preventative actions against identified threats, turning insights into direct mitigation actions across security products and services.
Integrating Cyberint's technology into Check Point's Infinity platform will allow the company to provide proactive protection across a broader range of threats. More than 90% of organizations face risks from leaked credentials and fake websites, which Corem said emphasizes the urgent need for real-time threat intelligence to preempt attacks.
"Amalgamating the different external threats into a unified platform was only the first phase in fulfilling Cyberint’s vision," Corem said in a blog post Tuesday. "The Check Point acquisition takes Cyberint to the next chapter in its evolution, which is to bring Impactful Intelligence to the masses by powering up the Check Point Infinity platform."
The proposed acquisition of Cyberint comes nearly a year after the company bought zero trust network access startup Perimeter 81 for $503.1 million to fuel the adoption of secure access across remote users, sites, cloud, data centers and the internet. That same month, Check Point bought SaaS security startup Atmosec for an undisclosed amount to anticipate and block threats from malicious applications (see: Check Point to Buy SSE, ZTNA Startup Perimeter 81 for $490M).
