In harmony with a wave of global privacy and security legislation, Canada has its own new breach notification requirements going into effect on Nov. 1. Attorney Ruth Promislow says these standards will force organizations to shift from a reactive to a proactive approach to incident response.

Promislow, a partner at the Toronto law firm Bennett Jones LLP, practices commercial litigation with a focus on commercial crime, including cybersecurity, Ponzi schemes, investment fraud, employee fraud and anti-money laundering. She has extensive experience with recovery issues relating to commercial crime. Promislow oversees and conducts internal investigations for clients, working with internal and external auditors. She works with clients to develop and implement action plans following a cybersecurity or other fraudulent attack and also advises on steps to prevent against such attacks.
