Generative AI is fast transitioning from a subject of technical intrigue to a catalyst driving boardroom discussions. When ChatGPT emerged, some companies opted to block it, while others geared up for its potential adoption.

This has put the onus on CIOs to showcase a proactive strategy that extends beyond talking about innovation. Datta Junnarkar, CIO of Maritime at Boeing, emphasized the importance of harnessing employee-driven innovation in enabling the adoption of generative AI.

To kick-start this adoption, Boeing has created groups in which employees can present their ideas for using generative AI. "We wanted to listen to what our employees are trying to do and then try to figure out which ideas make sense and which ones we can prioritize that can be of value to the company," Junnarkar said.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2024, Junnarkar also discussed:

  • The changing dynamics of the CIO-CISO relationship;
  • Employee-driven innovation for generative AI adoption;
  • How generative AI will change the course for CIOs.

Junnarkar is dedicated to leading change with emerging technologies, designing and deploying innovative programs as part of digital transformation, and creating policies that drive competitive advantage and global business development. He has established an M&A integration center of excellence and provided leadership from start to completion, successfully executing more than 13 M&A integrations.
