Medical research "is a massive data hog," and AI offers "massive potential" to make intelligent decisions around large data sets," he said. "We need more patient data to see how they react to a drug, how they react to a treatment, what is the demographic information of the contributors who have a certain ailment."
At the same time, AI poses security threats, he cautioned. "For me as an information security professional, it comes down to controls - how we police and govern those interactions."
In this video interview at Information Security Media Group's recent healthcare security summit in New York City, Frushour also discussed:
- The "mystique" around AI and how it influences the threat landscape;
- Dangers involving the potential use of AI in healthcare for nefarious purposes;
- Critical players who must to be participants in AI governance within healthcare.
Frushour joined New York-Presbyterian Hospital in 2016. He previously held several security management and leadership roles at technology firms, including Nuance, where he was director of security operations. Prior to that, Frushour held technology management positions in the U.S. Marine Corps, including director of tactical networks.
