5 Case Studies on Improving HIPAA & HITECH Compliance

Not only are high-profile healthcare breaches driving home the need for improved security measures, but healthcare mandates are also urging providers and business associates to review their IT infrastructure and upgrade it to maintain compliance.

And 2015 is particularly taxing on the healthcare industry: Half of the hospitals scheduled to demonstrate Stage 2 meaningful use this year are expected to file for hardship exceptions, several states are mandating EPCS compliance by year end 2015, and several hundred covered entities and business associates will soon undergo HIPAA phase 2 audits.

This webinar will present five use cases through which organizations can concurrently improve security and compliance, including meeting HIPAA, HITECH and EPCS requirements.

Background

Maintaining the security of patient data is a complex proposition that affects every employee of a healthcare facility, every area of its IT system, and all vendors, partners, and insurers that work with the healthcare provider.

Both providers and business associates are challenged with securing a complex IT ecosystem, which may span EHR systems, databases, health information exchanges and virtual environments. And while healthcare systems are vulnerable to a myriad of threat vectors faced by other industries, it endures the highest cost per breached record across verticals, as well as steep fines for regulatory violations.

This webinar will cover five use cases for improving digital security across provider and associate infrastructures, and concurrently gaining or maintaining compliance with the following mandates:

  • HIPAA - Relevant to healthcare providers, healthcare clearinghouses, health plans and business associates especially in light of OCR's recently launched HIPAA phase 2 audit program;
  • HITECH - Stage 2 Meaningful Use (MU2), to be demonstrated by 3,900 eligible hospitals this year in any three-month quarter;
  • EPCS - The DEA's Electronic Prescriptions for Controlled Substances regulation, mandated by year end 2015 in some states and instrumental in demonstrating MU2.
