Audio Report: ISMG Editors Analyze the Latest Developments
Sizing Up Donald Trump's Cybersecurity Acumen

A report on the former head of the NSA and CIA questioning President-elect Donald Trump's understanding of cybersecurity leads the latest edition of the ISMG Security Report.

In this edition, you'll hear (click player beneath image to listen):

  • Michael Hayden, former National Intelligence, National Security Agency and Central Intelligence Agency director, evaluate Trump's comprehension of the challenges his administration will face on key cybersecurity matters. "If he governs in any way consistent with the language he used as a candidate, I would be very, very concerned," Hayden says in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. The former four-star general ticks off four items that he contends demonstrate Trump's dearth of knowledge on IT security;
  • An update on Trump selecting John Kelly, a former four-star Marine general, to head up the Department of Homeland Security, the federal agency responsible for defending the nation's critical infrastructure that's mostly operated by the private sector;
  • An analysis of the annual State of Homeland Security address delivered by House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, one of Congress' foremost experts on cybersecurity. McCaul discusses his cybersecurity agenda for 2017;
  • An explanation from ISMG Security and Technology Managing Editor Jeremy Kirk on how vulnerabilities discovered in Sony IP cameras could help hackers launch a distributed denial-of-service attack or cause other cyber woes.

The ISMG Security Report appears on this and other ISMG websites on Tuesdays and Fridays. Be sure to check out our Dec. 2 and Dec. 6 reports, which respectively address how congressional bureaucracy stifles cybersecurity legislation and the observations of a member of President Obama's Commission on Enhancing Cybersecurity on its just-issued report. The next ISMG Security Report will be posted on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
