Why Reputational Risk Management Matters

When it comes to breach preparation, it isn't just about protecting IT assets. Increasingly, the conversation is about reputational risk management, says Jacob Olcott of BitSight Technologies.

"What we've seen after the past number of years is that cyberattacks can have very serious, very real consequences to an organization's reputation," says Olcott, VP of Strategic Partnerships at BitSight. "And a lot of risk to an organization's reputation is caught up in how an organization is able to respond to one of these incidents."

In an interview about reputational risk management, Olcott discusses:

  • The intersection of cybersecurity with RRM;
  • Business benefits inherent in an RRM strategy;
  • How security ratings and monitoring fit into the strategy.

Before joining BitSight, Olcott managed the cybersecurity consulting practice at Good Harbor Security Risk Management. Previously, he served as legal adviser to the Senate Commerce Committee and as counsel to the House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee. He completed his education at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Virginia School of Law.
