"Communicating threats and alerts across disparate devices that are used in the security infrastructure to help build a better, consistent understanding of these new [threats] we're encountering that are behavioral based ... is very critical," he says. "But it's a little bit anathema to the vendors because then they all have to work together, and we have to have some standards-based approaches on how we communicate this information to each other."
In an interview recorded at the Gartner Security & Risk Management Summit, Duncan discusses:
- How data breaches could build support for development and use of security technology standards;
- Why smaller vendors are more willing to adopt standards than larger ones;
- What role standards developed by National Institute of Standards and Technology could play.
