Health Info Privacy Tips for Banks

Free Webinar to Offer HIPAA, HITECH Compliance Advice
Health Info Privacy Tips for Banks
A free webinar June 15 will address healthcare information privacy and security issues for financial institutions that process protected health information.

The Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission, which accredits claims clearinghouses, health information exchanges and financial institutions, among others, is hosting the event. It will address:

  • How HIPAA and HITECH Act regulations can affect financial institutions;
  • Recommendations for how to achieve compliance;
  • Ramifications for unlawful disclosures of patient information; and
  • Steps for reducing risk.

Lee Barrett, executive director of the commission, will host the event, which will feature four speakers. Because regulations are continually evolving, Barrett says "it's crucial that financial organizations involved in processing and transmitting PHI not only understand current healthcare privacy and security legislation but also maintain best practices for ensuring compliance and avoiding penalties."
